A new apartment development was recently announced for the Tampa Heights neighborhood. The building, on the corner of N Jefferson and E Plymouth St., was originally the Graham Bottling Works building, as you can see in the first picture. Unfortunately, as the 2nd picture shows, the building has been vacant, abandoned, and in need of repair– just waiting for new life.
Tampa Heights Neighborhood
The story of this building is similar to the story for a lot of Tampa Heights. The Tampa Heights neighborhood in Tampa, FL was established in the 1880’s as one of the first suburbs of Tampa, and was a highly regarded neighborhood. By the 1960’s, though, the neighborhood was in decline. Fortunately, this area is being revitalized and it is exciting to see these changes! Water Works park was re-opened with the spring that feeds into the Hillsborough River. The trendy restaurant Ūlëlē opened inside the renovated Water Works building.
The Project
The Graham Bottling Works building will be another part of this resurgence. The plans call for this building to become a 22-unit apartment complex called, The Bootlegger. There are not a lot of additional details on the project at this time. We look forward to seeing this progress with drawings and info on the types of apartments we can expect to see. Historic preservation and redevelopment is always exciting to see, especially in some of the forgotten sections of Tampa, FL.

We are looking forward to more projects like the Bootlegger in the Tampa Heights historic district. We love to see these neighborhoods on the rise again, and we look forward to what the future holds for this building and the rest of the Tampa Heights area.
